Storytelling with a vision
Synergy is the creation of a whole that is greater than the simple sum of its parts; and I firmly believe this stands true in the collaborative art of filmmaking. With focus on telling stories with an artistic vision and strong emotional connection.
Michael Tebinka is a Swedish cinematographer with Polish roots and a background in photojournalism and video art. He has over a decade of experience filming commercials, narrative, documentary, music videos and art house projects.
His approach to film is often presented as a combination of participatory presence and embodied choreography. Simply put, being an active part of the scene with precise camera movement, extending actors’ expression and emotional connection with the space. Light plays an important role in his work with a preference for deep shadows and careful pockets of naturalistic illumination.
Michael has always had a deep interest in time, physical space and human perception as three constants through which experiences take place. He further explored this through academia and holds a bachelors degree in video art from Lasalle College of the Arts in Singapore and a masters degree in stereoscopic media from Ravensbourne University in London. During his early academic years in Singapore, he explored moving images through video art as an installation-based medium; often resulting in bold large-scale multi-channel structures. Later, during his time in London he found interest in a more technical approach to perception in moving images by exploring stereoscopic film production and working with volumetric capture for virtual reality and immersive mediums. Both of which have largely contributed to his cinematography today.
Art in combination with technology has always played a mutual and very intuitive role in Michael’s approach to crafting images in a heightened, stylised way. With focus on telling stories with an artistic vision and strong emotional connection.
Michael is multilingual, speaking Swedish, English, Spanish, Polish and has long-term experience living abroad which enhances his adaptability in international projects and his ability to communicate effectively both on and off-set.
